About Us

Custom Works is a Darwin-based aluminium design and fabrication company servicing a variety of industries including marine, manufacturing, construction and transportation.  The company was established in 2007 and has rapidly developed a reputation for innovative designs and high quality workmanship. 

In addition to general design and manufacturing activities, Custom Works also has a vessel building arm .

Custom Works vessels represent the cutting edge of alloy boat manufacture.  While Custom Works as an entity is a relatively new competitor in the high performance boat building stakes, principal designer and owner Dale Smith is certainly not.  For the past 15 years Dale has been designing and building quality alloy boats both here in Australia as well as overseas, ranging from small 4m dinghies through to large 45m offshore ferries.

As a welder and boat builder, Dale and his dedicated team at Custom Works pride themselves on designing, building and delivering the Territory’s premier aluminium vessels servicing the maritime industry, as well as the professional guided and recreational fishing sectors.  Integral to delivering this outcome is using state–of-the-art 3D modelling software as a component of the computer assisted design (CAD) process – one used to develop all Custom Works vessels.  As the only Territory boat builder employing high-end 3D computer design technology, Custom Works is able to deliver highly accurate hydrostatic information (including weight distribution and buoyancy calculations) to assist with the custom designing of vessels to meet the specific requirements of each client. Custom Works’ modern and well appointed aluminium and steel fabrication facilities are centrally located at 2/29 Tannadice St. Winnellie.
